Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Prayer | PDF Guide

Many Catholics are familiar with the Rosary and its connection to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The Rosary is a great way to connect with Mary, and we have been given a special call to devote ourselves to her. Just as we honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so also should we devote ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

History of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Sister Lucia was a visionary for Our Lady of Fatima. The Immaculate Heart had first been revealed in the visions at Fatima, and Sister Lucia received other visions a few years later. Jesus and Mary appeared to her a few years later and revealed to her that Mary’s Immaculate Heart deserved devotion on earth. She wrote about what was revealed to her about Mary’s Immaculate Heart in her Memoirs and book, “Calls” From the Message of Fatima.

As Sister Lucia explains, the Immaculate Heart of Mary is the way for us, God’s children, to reach Him.

Mary carried Jesus in her womb for nine months and nourished Him. Jesus reflects Mary in His humanity because she is His Mother. Sister Jacinta, another visionary from Fatima, said that Jesus wants the Heart of His Mother to be honored next to His own.

Mary’s Heart is pained by blasphemy and ingratitude. Completing the devotion tasks with the intent to make reparation to her is an opportunity for us to try to console her.

First Saturday Devotion

Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary traditionally consists of honoring Mary in a special way on the first Saturdays of five months in a row. To receive the graces of the devotion, one must complete these four tasks:

  1. Go to confession
  2. Receive the Eucharist
  3. Pray the Rosary
  4. Pray with Mary for 15 minutes by meditating on the Rosary

Wearing the scapular and praying the Rosary every day are also ways to show devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Graces of Devotion to the Immaculate Heart

Mary promised Sister Lucia that she would assist all those who practice this devotion when they were dying and give them the graces they need for salvation.

Mary is our Mother, and she intercedes for us as her children. We should be confident in her care for us!

1. Increase your commitment to praying a Rosary with your family.

Praying a Rosary as a family is a great way to unite your family to Mary and grow closer to her, her Son, and your family.

2. Pray the Rosary every day.

Praying the Rosary every day brings peace and grace into your day. It is a beautiful way to honor Mary and ask for her help throughout your day.

3. Pray a scriptural Rosary.

Entering into the Rosary with scripture is another way to enter into the beauty of the Rosary. It unites you with Mary and the life of Jesus by meditating on passages from the Bible.
