Saint Joseph Rosary | How to Pray the St. Joseph Rosary

Many Catholics are familiar with the Rosary to Mary and practice that devotion regularly. Not as many people are familiar with the Saint Joseph Rosary, a prayer that consists of repeated prayers that honor St. Joseph, the spouse of Mary.

Devotion to Saint Joseph is a good practice to have to strengthen our faith. St. Joseph is the foster father of Jesus, and he has a multitude of virtues to share with us that can help us become better Catholics.

The Prayers of the Saint Joseph Rosary

The St. Joseph Rosary can be prayed on regular Rosary beads.

       1. Opening Prayers

On the Cross of the Rosary: Pray the Sign of the Cross and the Apostles’ Creed.

On the first bead: Pray the Our Father.

On the next three beads: Pray the following prayer to Saint Joseph for purity, fidelity, and humility:

Hail Joseph, Son of David, spouse of Mary. Blessed art thou among patriarchs, and blessed is thy Holy Family. Holy Joseph, Guardian of Jesus, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Then pray a Glory Be.

      2. The Mysteries and Decade Prayers of the Saint Joseph Rosary

  1. The Betrothal to Mary
  2. The Annunciation to Saint Joseph
  3. The Birth and Naming of Jesus
  4. The Flight into Egypt
  5. The Hidden Life at Nazareth

On the first bead: Announce the mystery and pray the Our Father.

On the next ten beads: Pray the above prayer to St. Joseph that is said in the introductory prayers.

Conclude each decade with a Glory Be.

      3. Concluding Prayers

After reciting all five decades, the following prayer is said:

O blessed Joseph, yours the praise the choirs of angels sing, the guardian of the Virgin blest, and of her Child and King. The prophets told of God to come: the Son of God on earth; yours was the glory then to be there at the Savior’s birth. To Him, the Father’s only Son, you served as father here; He was subjected to your will, He, whom the heavens revere. As once you sought and found again the Christ, the Lord of Light; so may we walk with Him, like you, all humble in His sight. O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the God of truth and grace, by holy Joseph’s prayers grant that we may see Your face.

R. Pray for us O blessed Joseph,

V. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

A final prayer is recited:

Almighty and eternal God, grant, we beseech Thee, that by meditating upon the mysteries of the Rosary of Saint Joseph, we may imitate his prayerful trust, and faithfully carry out Your holy will, despite difficulties, uncertainties, and fears. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

End with a Sign of the Cross.
