Prayer after the Rosary

Rosary Prayers | The Prayer after the Rosary

One of the most well-known and commonly observed forms of devotion in the Catholic Church is the recitation of the Holy Rosary. As you learn to pray the Rosary, it’s helpful to know the prayer after the Rosary which concludes your Holy Rosary.

Reciting the rosary is a common form of devotional prayer and it has developed and acquired new prayer components over the course of the centuries. The Rosary can be concluded in a variety of ways, but one of the most common ways is to pray the prayers after the Rosary that are provided in the following paragraphs.

There is also a prayer card that can be printed out and used as a reference when learning the prayer after the Rosary. Please feel free to print this out and share it with others. If you are new to praying the Rosary, we also have a comprehensive guide to the Rosary as well as an illustrative guide for you.

The Prayer after the Rosary

Although it is customary to finish reciting the Rosary with a set of predetermined prayers, you are free to include any other devotions of your choosing. After finishing the last decade of the Rosary, and saying the final Glory Be and Fatima Prayer, pray the following prayers.

Hail Holy Queen

The Hail, Holy Queen serves as the first Rosary Closing Prayer at the conclusion of the decades of the rosary. This prayer is frequently recited while holding the medal that connects the crucifix extension to the rosary's loop.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Saint Michael Prayer

Some people finish their rosary by reciting the Saint Michael Prayer.

Saint Michael Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

The Rosary Prayer

We conclude with the following invocation, which we refer to as the Rosary Prayer.

O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation; grant we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

At this point, some people request that specific Catholic Saints pray for them. Saints associated with the Rosary include Saint John Paul the Great, Saint Louis de Montfort, Saint Padre Pio, and Saint Dominic. You may choose these, or any other Saints you’d like to pray for you. We phrase this as: "Saint John Paul the Great, pray for us.”

Conclude the Rosary by making the Sign of the Cross.
